Frequently asked questions

When should I book my session?

I typically open booking 6 months at a time. I fill up very quickly once I open the schedule, it's best to check in as soon as possible.

Where and when will our session be?

I shoot at public parks and properties. The majority of my outdoor sessions happen in the evening right before sunset. Some locations are not available on weekends during peak shooting months because of crowds. Those places are best shot at on a weekday. When it comes time to decide on location, I'll send you a few suggestions, or you can request a location you've seen on my website.

What should we wear?

I encourage clients to look around their homes and see what colors would look best on their walls. Most people display their portraits as canvases or enlarged framed prints, you'll want to choose colors that will compliment your decor. Generally picking three to four colors and building around those works well. Things like scarves, vests, jackets, and layers always look great, and don't be afraid of color. Most importantly, make sure you're comfortable. With family photography, moms and dads with littles will be sitting, standing, squatting, kids in their laps, kids on shoulders, hanging upside down, etc. You'll want to make sure you can bend and move without being restricted or without undergarments showing. Baby girls in dresses will need diaper covers. Also be mindful of the weather, littles are much happier when they're warm if it's chilly out.

Can I bring my pet?

Absolutely! Fur babies are part of the family too! Well behaved pets on leashes are always welcome at public locations. Just plan to have somewhere to put them when they're not in the shot. Make sure to inquire ahead if you're not sure if your location allows pets.

What if it rains or my child gets sick before our session?

I'm a mom too! I know kids get sick, sometimes at the most inconvenient times. And of course, Texas weather. Gotta love it. I build reschedule dates into my month just for these reasons. Your shoot just needs to be rescheduled within a two week window on our next mutually available day.

My husband/child does not like taking pictures. What can I expect during our session?

This is a pretty common concern, but don't let it stress you out! Husbands rarely like picture day, and sometimes kiddos need a little motivation too. In my sessions we play. We run around, tickle fight, play games, hang upside down, all sorts of things to get your kids engaged. Your family photos should capture your family doing what you do. I get a few posed shots of everyone smiling and looking too, but the ones we love are the ones where there are connections. The expressions we want to remember are when we're engaging with each other, not just looking at a photographer. Coming to your photo session with the expectation that you'll have fun will do a lot for the mood of your session. And don't worry, I always bring bribes and fun props for toddlers. The most important thing that you can do is to make sure they've napped, are fed, and are dressed comfortably.

When and how will I receive my photos?

I have a 2-3 week turn around on gallery delivery. You will receive an invitation to your password protected, online gallery for viewing. You will be able to download your high resolution files from that gallery. Your files will be available in that gallery for about a week, then they'll be removed and archived. You'll always want to download to a desktop or laptop, not a phone or tablet device, and make sure to back your files up in another place. There is a fee for re-delivering your files once they've been archived.

Do I have to purchase prints with you?

I do not do print orders, but I can direct you to labs that do great prints.

Are my images suitable for enlargements and canvases?

All my images are shot in the largest file size possible and are high resolution, suitable for blowing up big and not losing quality. Remember that when ordering canvases, you lose some of the outer edges of the image to the wrap around. Also with most typical enlargements, the short sides get cropped. Make sure you go into the 'edit/crop' menu where you are printing to see that it's centered or will look good on a canvas. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about printing.

I hope this was helpful, don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions!!
